Welcome October! For October, we will finish up all of those half square triangles, and the 3 corresponding 3.5" mini-blocks that become the pieces of our large wheel blocks. Phew, that's a lot of blocks!
I'm adding more detailed videos and info on each of the 3.5" blocks we will be creating. As a reminder, here they are pictured below.
First, I started with the background 4-patch blocks, because they seemed like the easiest ones! We need 72 of these blocks for the quilt. The following has some tips on ironing using these 4-patch blocks.
The next video shows you how the center seams of the four-patch should nest together as you piece them.

This next video shows the butterfly blocks, which we also need 72 of.
And finally................the last style of block we need to make up our Spinning Wheels!
Are you ready?................We need 424 of these blocks! Phew! By now you should have the hang of how these blocks go together, finishing to 3.5" square before being added into the Spinning Wheels block. We will also nest the center of these blocks, as shown below:

The first image shows the right side of the block, when it is still in two rows. The second image shows the wrong side of the same block, where you can see the seams were ironed toward the background square, and toward the background triangle. This will ensure they nest into the center of the block. |
